This briefing on child recruitment and use in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was sent to members of the UN Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict for their consideration during the drafting of the DRC Conclusions in February 2011. The note highlights: recruitment and use of children by the state armed forces, as well as Congolese and foreign armed groups; detention and ill-treatment of captured child soldiers; impunity; and long-term strategies for reintegration. The note presents recommendations to the government as well as to the UN and the international community.
